So we have a son finishing school this year. And current events dictate we need to be concerned, certainly about him getting into University, but also about what should happen if the path to University gets derailed, either by not getting sufficient scores on entry exams, by ever changing and morphing mobilization laws, or by stupidity in general. Regardless, the bribery option is still alive and well and living under the junta regime, so a few well placed bribes can certainly either get him into University or get him out of the country, should it come down to that.

Getting Ready for the End of an Uncertain School Year. Planning End of School Activities

This financial uncertainty is make it quite difficult to plan anything too far in advance. We have a son who is graduating from school this year. It is generally a tradition that on the last day of school to rent out a venue for an all-night event. Not surprisingly, at some schools they will still party as if it's 2014. They'll have the all-night event, they'll have a fancy venue, and no expense will be too much to pay. But at other schools, they'll only party like it's 2015. No all-night event. Just an average venue. And keep the costs down wherever possible. That's just the economic reality these days.

During December and January, two new students started attending our son's class. So now they needed to collect funds from two more sets of parents. We asked the one girl for her parents phone number, but she said we have to talk to her sister. It seems that this girl is from Lugansk, and the war zone. There are parents stayed behind; and sent their daughters to live in Kiev. Not with relatives, but by themselves. Obviously they have some money to be able to afford to do that, which might explain why the parents stayed behind. But yet, it's sad. This is not the first time that refugees from the war zone have come into our lives, and sadly I doubt if it will be the last time either.

After much conversation and plenty of hemming and hawing, a venue was selected. The selected venue, a late-Soviet era restaurant, gave us a fixed price, but who knows? But even then, they wanted part of the upfront price in dollars. So, at least for now, we think we have a venue. But just to get to this point, weirdness ensued. When it came time to hand over the deposit, the manager wrote out a piece of paper and signed it. No contract, just a piece of paper. He insisted that they've never used contracts in the year and a half that he's been working there. So my wife came home and looked up a blank contract on the Internet that could be adopted for this use. She filled in all the blanks and took it back to the venue to be signed. So at least there's a semi-official signed contract. It wasn't until later that my wife noticed that it was a contract form for the Russia Federation. But still that has to be better than no contract at all.

On a side note, unlike a good number of people in Kiev, this manager spoke mostly Ukrainian, in a perfect west Ukrainian accent. My wife looked him up on Facebook and sure enough, he's from L'vov, from the heartland of Ukrainian nationalism. Yeah, this is a thing over here. There's a world of difference in the Ukrainian mentality and a Russian mentality. I thought for a long time that it was mostly an exaggeration. It is not. Maybe I shouldn't go here, but I will.

The Ukrainian mentality reminds me very much of the mentality of certain minority groups in the USA. They are caught in a cycle of underachievement and low level of anger at pretty much everybody and everything. In the USA, skin color is the most noticeable physical difference, so everything gets blamed on racism. In Ukraine, the population is a lot more homogeneous. Physically, it is not possible to differentiate between the two. But mentally, they often seem to live on their own different planets. Russians have traditionally been more successful than their Ukrainian counterparts, and this difference was exploited quite successfully by those who want to sow turmoil in this part of the world. I'm sure that at least some of this hatred of all things Russian arises from this.

Part of the ritual in a child's last year of school in Ukraine is to hire private tutors to bring the child up to speed on things they fail to learn in the classroom. We're currently utilizing three different tutors. One is for Ukrainian history. Up through the middle of last year, this teacher was teaching in the Lugansk school system, but her and her husband chose to flee to Kiev. Along with other refugees from the war in the East who chose to come to Kiev, they often encounter discrimination when trying to find accommodations and employment. Those who discriminate often don't want to deal with "separatists".

Our teacher eventually found full-time work here in Kiev and tutors on the side. Her husband was offered a position in a technical capacity of some sort, but turned it down because his salary would be 3000 hyrivnia. After the recent currency devaluation, that's about $120. A month. She didn't specify what technical skills he has, so it's hard to tell why such a low rate. So he's trying his hand that computer repair. One job a day, five days a week, and he's making what he would've made in the full-time job. And it's all cash payment under the table.

Some parents are not paying school costs. There are just some school costs the government haven't been paying for, both now and under previous governments. Things like security, printers and toner and paper, and other school supplies. Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention gifts for the teachers. Gifts for birthdays, gifts for holidays, gifts that will make their job easier. Some parents likely can't afford this, so they don't pay, but one mother thinks that donating to the ATO (the Anti-Terrorist Operation, also known as Poroshenko's genocidal war), should absolve her from paying her dues to the school. But in effect, that means that the other parents end up subsidizing this mother's donations to the ATO. And a few parents are not very pleased about it.

My wife and I have decided that we will no longer pay these costs to the school either, since neither of us want to subsidize those who don't pay because they'd prefer to donate to the ATO. So we are saving up the money so that when the end of school comes around, the graduates will have a bit more to celebrate their milestone with.

Part of the last year of school ritual, here like elsewhere, is having photos taken and creating the new photo album of your school memories. Many photographers would come to the school with the camera and a few lights, sit you in the chair, and take a photograph. A few students and a few parents decided they wanted did a bit more than that. Something with props and decorations and atmosphere. But it would've cost a lot more to have the photographer bring all of that to the school, so one Saturday they trekked across town to the photographer's studio. Though one of the props the photographer had one whole bunch of letters that went arranged in the correct order spelled out "Slava Ukraina," the Bandera era Nazi slogan that's all the rage with non-thinking government supporters everywhere. Well my wife was none to pleased about that one, and she made her displeasure known. And the word started to get around our son's class. A week later there was a parents meeting at the school, and the photo with the Nazi slogan once again came up. And then a few other parents went ballistic. Not surprisingly, a good number of the students are not too pleased with this controversy. And no surprise. I'm sure the school spent a lot of time, especially this year, inculcating their impressionable minds with the new proper groupthink.

One last story before I close out this edition.

If you think that the so-called "leaders" of the free world might come to their senses any time soon, think again. We recently put in a request to have some simple routine maintenance done in the common area of our building. How routine? How about just changing some light bulbs? Well it seems the maintenance departments have their hands full these days, because they are cleaning up and renovating basements all around the city. Why? For use as bomb shelters, of course.

According to our information, the Nazis of the Kiev Junta are planning to conduct a major terrorist act in the next several days. Or a series of terrorist acts. On the territory of Ukraine.

For the past several days, Messr. Avakov and his assistant Shkiryak have been conducting preparation for this in the mass media. The goal of this is to blame the terrorist acts on Russia and to introduce a regime of total dictatorship on the territory of Ukraine. The maximum goal is to create the conditions for a NATO military intervention, and of the Polish-Lithuanian contingent in particular.

The responsibility for the operation code-named “Spalokhutemreve” has been placed on an SBU [Ukrainian Security Service] Major, who has been introducing himself as Alexei Nikonov. He is a close associate of Messr. Nalyvaichenko.

This information was provided by high-ranking officials in Kiev, who are concerned for their future after the fall of the Kiev Junta, which inevitably will come.

And so, the Ukrainian Nazis have chosen to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors – the German Nazis. They will now be implementing an operation analogous to the Reichstag Fire. All that can be said is that they are following in the footsteps of their predecessors.

What should the common people, now listening to this address, do? In the next several days, do not visit places of public concentration of people. Try either not to use public transportation or to use it as sparingly as possible. In particular, this concerns the metro system. Pay close attention to looking after your children. Look after your buildings’ cellars and entranceways, to ensure that no strangers go there and that no unknown cargos are deposited in your cellars and entranceways.

Please disseminate this information to your acquaintances, friends and neighbours – to anyone that you can. And may God help us.

As tragic as the downing of the Malaysian Airliner MH17 is, I have decided to remove myself from the ongoing debate and the search for What Really Happened.

Most of you will agree with me that the whole Story stinks. And most of you will agree, that since the doomed Airliner crashed onto the plains of Eastern Ukraine, all the finger pointing – from the very first moments – was directed at Russia, even though the only ones benefitting from this tragedy are Kiev, and supporters of the criminal and illegitimate Junta, who are waging war against their own people.

There is too much information now about that Airliner, too much counter information, misinformation, half information and information that contradicts all the information just mentioned.

In other Words:

We are getting distracted from the real issue here: The Freedom Fight of the People in Novorossiya and the fact that a War Against Russia is being laid on Track.

If you think I am exaggerating, then you’re not paying attention – and for sure did not follow today’s UNSC Meeting on this issue.

The narrative is now out and spinning and whoever is familiar with the Western MSM knows that there is no turning back now. The Beast wants to be fed.

Combats SITREP from "Juan"

Igla-S man protable anti aircraft missiles were found 'abandoned' beside a country road' by Donbas Army, confirmed. Quantity unknown.

A video of a Ukrainian Sukhoi ground attack plane being shot down 30 May is extant. No verification of the incident by witness account from a crash sight. The pilot ejecting is visible on the video.

Ternopol: Some government buildings have been taken by the people, one admin building burned 30 May.

Several ZU-23 anti aircraft systems (which can be used with devastating effects as heavy rapid-fire machine guns on ground targets) were "found" by Donbas Army. Source and number of as new condition weapons unknown. The weapon systems are now in use of the Donbas Army.

Casualties from the bombardments of Slavyansk and Donetsk are estimated in excess of 50 civilians but this number is not verified. It is verified that one 5 year old girl child has lost a foot.

Children were being evacuated from Slavyansk to Russian Federation and sent to Sevastopol yesterday and today. That evacuation has been suspended due to the situation in Slavyansk as of early this afternoon local time.

Heavy fighting is continuing in parts of Slavyansk and outlying areas all day and intensifying as of 17:55 31.05.2014.

Donetsk Airport is still the scene of sporadic fighting since afternoon 29 May. Fighting still occurring 31 May.

Casualties of junta Army as of 28 May are reported to be 627. Casualties of the junta Army since that date are reported by the same source as 250. Both figures are KIA (killed in action). WIA (wounded in action) are not known accurately but the source estimates in excess of 700 WIA up to 28 May. WIA after there is no estimate.

Desertions from Ukrainian Army are confirmed at a minimum of 1428 as of 28 May. No numbers reported after that date. It is unknown if these figures include national guard/right sector casualties.

18:21 local time unconfirmed reports from Donetsk Airport that a junta Army unit has turned at least some of their weapons on national guard/right sector fighters in airport terminal, reason unknown.

My own sources confirm that Slaviansk has seen the heaviest artillery strikes ever with shells landing more or less randomly in the city. Still, the huge artillery barrage which "Juan" and, by the way, one of the leaders of the Resistance, Viacheslav Ponomarev had feared would occur last night did not happen. In other words, the means to flatten Slaviansk have been deployed, but the political decision seems to be the only thing waiting to happen and, as Crossvader and others had suggested, this decision would entail major risks for the regime in Kiev. My personal guess is that the local commanders of the Ukie death-squands around Slaviansk would love to open up with everything they have against those they call "terrorists", "bugs" or "Moskals" but that folks like Poroshenko in Kiev see, if not the big picture, then at least a bigger picture. For one thing, the Russians could simply walk out from the negotiations on gas deliveries. What is certain is that the fight for the control of rump-Ukraine is now on, with on one hand the Poroshenko-Klichko duo trying to get Kiev under control and on the other the Iarosh-Timoshenko-Tiagnibok-Liashko freak show trying to put pressure on him with maximalist demands. The compromise in Novorossia seems to be "we will shell enough to create a panic, but not enough to trigger a real bloodbath". This is most definitely not an effective tactics.

Introduction: the broader background to the Ukrainian crisis

Before looking at the latest developments in the Ukraine, I think that it is important to at least mention two major developments involving Russia. First, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus have signed the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and they will soon be joined by Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. Second, China has officially called for a new security alliance with Russia and Iran thereby proving that all the naysayers who said that China did not really mean it to form an alliance with Russia were plain wrong. As I mentioned it in a previous SITREP the scope and nature of the recent economic agreements between Russia and China already constituted what I called a crypto-alliance and now we see the first official move by China to drop the 'crypto' part of it. Again, this is truly a major tectonic shift in world politics and, arguable, the creation of the most powerful coalition of countries in history. The title of Godfather of this new coalition should really go to the USA and Barak Obama who by his amazingly arrogant and hostile policies towards both China and Russia has greatly contributed to the forging of this alliance.

This process is far from over, by the way. Not only are there discussions to expand the BRICS to other countries (like Argentina), the SCO or CSTO could also be expanded to include countries such as Iran or Pakistan. AS for the Eurasian Economic Union, it will eventually morph into a single political entity, a Eurasian alliance which could include China in economic and/or security agreements.

The entire Eurasian landmass is slowly but inexorably becoming integrated into a zone free from AngloZionist control and free of the dollar. The writing is on the wall for the AngloZionist Empire.

Latest developments in the Ukraine

The Ukrainian offensive has seen yet another dramatic escalation with, for the first time, the use of "Grad" multiple rocket launchers on the city of Slaviansk. At least one Ukrainian helicopter, reportedly carrying a general and 12 other people, has been shot down by the Novorossia Defense Forces (NDF). Sporadic artillery fire, at times intensive, has been heard through the night and casualties continue to be brought into the local hospitals. Several Ukrainian units have put down their weapons and basically surrendered to the NDF. In Sebastopol special headquarters have been set up to deal with the flow of incoming refugees. In Kiev the Parliament is considering declaring martial law which would basically give unlimited power to the junta and suspend most civil rights.

There are two ways to look at these events. You could say that a lot happened, there is an escalation taking place, people on both sides die, helicopters got shot down, units are refusing to obey criminal order, etc. But you could also say that from a purely military point of view absolutely nothing happened at all. Think of it this way:

What have we seen since the junta began its terror operation in Novorossiia? Slaviansk and Kramatorsk have been besieged and shelled. The junta forces have seized the airports near Slaviansk/Kramatorsk and Donetsk. That's it.

Now let me immediately dispel the notion that these airports are somehow strategically important. They are not. Normally, in most military conflicts, airports are very important objects, especially their runways and radars. But in this case the seizure of the Slaviansk/Kramatorsk and Donetsk airports has not been followed by any use of them by the junta, if only because there is way too much combat still taking place around them to make their use safe. Besides, what need is there for airports when everything can be reached by road anyway? What about denying the use of this airport to either the NDF or the Russians should they decide to intervene? Well, the NDF has no air assets at all, as for the Russians they sure don't need an airport to land an Airborne Regiment, Brigade or even Division. So why did the junta decide to commit its best forces to seize these airports? Simple - because they are not cities. Or, put differently, because they are located outsides cities. The fact is that the junta simply does not have the forces needed to occupy and control any city, so this is why they go for objectives which are outside cities.

Petr Poroshenko has announced that what the junta calls the "anti-terrorist operation" should not last for weeks, but only hours. So this begs the question: if the entire mix of junta forces (military + death-squads) have not succeeded in taking either Slaviansk (hab: 130'000)or Kramatorsk (hab: 165'000), what are their chances to take Donetsk (hab: 1'000'000)? Zero, of course. And even less than zero if that is to be done in a matter of a few days and hours.

So what is the point of all this?

Up until 2013 the Ukraine was a ‘buffer state’, basically a non-aligned country, with economic ties to both the EU and Russia. Ruled by a regime closely tied to local, European, Israeli and Russian based oligarchs, the political elite was a product of a political upheaval in 2004, (the so-called “Orange Revolution”) funded by the US. Subsequently, for the better part of a decade the Ukraine underwent a failed experiment in Western backed ‘neo-liberal’ economic policies. After nearly two decades of political penetration, the US and EU were deeply entrenched in the political system via long-standing funding of so-called non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), political parties and paramilitary groups.

The strategy of the US and EU was to install a pliant regime which would bring Ukraine into the European Common Market and NATO as a subordinate client state. Negotiations between the EU and the Ukraine government proceeded slowly. They eventually faltered because of the onerous conditions demanded by the EU and the more favorable economic concessions and subsidies offered by Russia. Having failed to negotiate the annexation of the Ukraine to the EU, and not willing to await scheduled constitutional elections, the NATO powers activated their well-financed and organized NGOs, client political leaders and armed paramilitary groups to violently overthrow the elected government. The violent putsch succeeded and a US-appointed civilian-military junta took power.

The junta was composed of pliant neo-liberal and chauvinist neo-fascist ‘ministers’. The former were hand-picked by the US, to administer and enforce a new political and economic order, including privatization of public firms and resources, breaking trade and investment ties with Russia, eliminating a treaty allowing the Russian naval base in Crimea and ending military-industrial exports to Russia. The neo-fascists and sectors of the military and police were appointed to ministerial positions in order to violently repress any pro-democracy opposition in the West and East. They oversaw the repression of bilingual speakers (Russian-Ukrainian), institutions and practices – turning the opposition to the US-NATO imposed coup regime into an ethnic opposition. They purged all elected opposition office holders in the West and East and appointed local governors by fiat – essentially creating a martial law regime.

Finian Cunningham - Kiev’s Jumping Jackboots… It’s a Gas, Gas, Gas! - Strategic Culture Foundation

Well ain’t it a gas! The Western-installed neo-Nazi regime in Kiev wants to join the European Union and the US-led NATO military alliance in order to allegedly adopt Western standards of market principles and law. So they say, anyway.

Yet, in the capitalist West one abiding principle is that if you don’t pay your bills on time, then the bank or utility company can sue the customer for non-payment, leading to foreclosure or the utility supply being shut off.

In Kiev, the Western-sponsored coup, posing now as a sovereign government of Ukraine led by the self-styled Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, wants to assume the responsibilities of state power. Their main responsibility so far is to wield a monopoly of state violence against so-called terrorists and separatists in the east and south of the country, who happen to dissent from the regime’s illegal self-imposed rule.

But in every other way the junta refuses to conform to supposed Western standards by point-blank denial of honouring colossal financial arrears to Russia for years of natural gas fuel supply.

Over half of all Ukrainian natural gas consumption is supplied from Russia. The gas bill is well overdue, with billions of dollars-worth outstanding.

Alexei Miller, the head of Russia giant gas company Gazprom, has warned that if Kiev does not pay up $1.6 billion – a fraction of the outstanding debt – then the gas deliveries for next month are to be stopped forthwith.

The Kiev regime has reacted with jackboot arrogance to what is a normal market principle – a principle that it is allegedly keen to uphold as part of its craving to join the EU and the capitalist Western camp.

I think that we can all agree that the situation in the Ukraine is one of total chaos.

• Renat Akhmetov, the local oligarch-mobster, had declared that his companies will go on a "warning strike" for 3 hours per day because Akhmetov was angered that the authorities of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) had taken over the control of the railways which resulted in losses for his company.
• One of the officials of the DRP reacted to Akhmetov's threat by declaring that the DRP authorities have begun the process of nationalization of the companies located on the territory of the DRP, in other words, Akhmetov's holdings.
• The military forces of the neo-Nazi junta have begun shelling several cities in the eastern Ukraine destroying several buildings
• The military commander of the DRP forces, Igor Strelkov, has made a poignant and blunt appeal for a much bigger mobilization of men, especially officers, in the volunteer forces defending the DRP against the junta's military.
• Ukrainian death-squads have, yet again, kidnapped a team of Russian reporters, this time of the TV station LifeNews, accusing them of being the "information-component" of a terrorist movement.
• The Russian government has indicated that the military forces which had been on maneuvers had returned to their bases. NATO denied that.
• The Russian military has completed the building a network of pipelines which are now fully supplying Crimea with fresh water.
• The leader of the Ukie Nazis, Iarosh, has announced that if he is elected he would launched a guerrilla war in Crimea.

So what is really going on?

I think that while it is premature to make grand conclusions and predictions, we can begin by agreeing on a number of basic facts.

First, there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the junta in Kiev is clearly provoking Moscow in every possible way. If one could maybe see some marginal and far-fetched military rationale for the kind of random artillery strikes the Ukies are unleashing on Slavianks, Kramatorsk and other cities, the arrest of the LifeNews news-crew makes no sense at all. They were put on their knees, beat up, held with their faces to the ground - all on video which was then "leaked" to Youtube as if the death squads were provoking the Kremlin with a "what are you gonna do about it?" message/

Second, I believe that the appointment of Biden's son to the board of directors of the main Ukie energy company whose concessions are all in the eastern Ukraine is also a way of further provoking the Kremlin.

So why would the junta do all this?

First, I think that it is reasonable to accept as an axiom that the freaks in Kiev don't "decide" anything at all. They just take orders from the USA and execute them. We saw that clearly during Biden's recent trip to Kiev when he had a meeting with the junta's "government" which he - Biden - "chaired" sitting at the head of the table (yet another deliberate in-your-face provocation).

Second, the US knows that the eastern Ukraine is lost, and they are absolutely correct. Even if we fully believe what Strelkov says (more about that later), there is no doubt that the vast majority of the folks in the Donbass hate the neo-Nazi freaks in Kiev and that they do not want a common future with the rabid Galicians from the western Ukraine.

"Kiev junta" threatens MPs with beating them to have their votes - political analyst - The Voice of Russia:

Ukrainian MPs have called for the creation of a parliamentary commission to investigate an assassination attempt on Gennady Kernes, the mayor of eastern Ukraine’s city of Kharkov. In late April, he was shot in the back while jogging and currently remains in hospital.

On May 13, Valery Bolotov, the self-declared People's Governor of the Lugansk Region in eastern Ukraine, was injured in what police said was also an assassination attempt. Radio VR talked to Dmitry Babich, VR's political analyst, about who could have been behind the plots.

It is quite clear that the political opinions of Mr. Kernes and Mr. Bolotov were so clearly anti-junta, they were so much against this so-called new Government in Kiev, that the answer I think is quite obvious. Although, I was surprised when I heard a BBC correspondent in Kharkov citing all kinds of versions after an assassination attempt against Kernes. He cited Russia’s involvement, he cited Kernes’s business deals, anything except for what to me looked the most obvious – the animosity of the authorities in Kiev. Because just recently, right after President Yanukovych was toppled, the first city where he came and where he was met with support was Kharkov. And Kernes was the Mayor of Kharkov.

So, it is just amazing how the Western journalists pretend not to notice obvious things. Just recently they haven't seen millions of people coming to the referendums in Donetsk and in Lugansk. And in the same way now they say – oh, who could shoot at the people’s governor of Lugansk Bolotov? We don’t know. Maybe the Russians. As if there was no military operation, the so-called antiterrorist military operation underway in Lugansk and in Donetsk.
