Secret History: The U.S. Supported and Inspired the Nazis - Washington's Blog

Unless We Learn Our History, We’re Doomed to Repeat It

Preface: I am a patriotic American who loves my country. I was born here, and lived here my entire life.

So why do I frequently point out America’s warts? Because – as the Founding Fathers and Supreme Court judges have explained – we can only make America better if we honestly examine her shortcomings. After all:
“Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.”
Only when Americans can honestly look at our weaknesses can we become stronger. If we fail to do so, history will repeat …

While Americans rightly condemn the Nazis as monstrous people, we don’t know that America played both sides … both fighting and supporting the Nazis.

Americans also aren’t aware that the Nazis were – in part – inspired by anti-Semites in America.

Backing Nazis

Large American banks – and George W. Bush’s grandfather – financed the Nazis.

American manufacturing companies were big supporters of the Nazis. here are 6 historical examples …

(1) IBM. CNET reports:

IBM has responded to questions about its relationship with the Nazis largely by characterizing the information as old news.

“The fact that Hollerith equipment manufactured by (IBM’s German unit) Dehomag was used by the Nazi administration has long been known and is not new information,” IBM representative Carol Makovich wrote in an e-mail interview. “This information was published in 1997 in the IEEE Annals of the History of Computing and in 1998 in Washington Jewish Week.”

***

IBM also defended Chairman Thomas Watson for his dealings with Hitler and his regime.

The Making of a Christian Taliban in Ukraine - The Intercept

THE RECRUITMENT POINT for volunteers in Dmytro Korchynsky’s holy war is located in the basement of a building in central Kiev, on Chapaev Street, in what used to be a billiard club. Anyone can sign up, and the location isn’t secret — its address and phone number is on the Internet.

Inside, lying on the billiard tables, are toy Kalashnikovs, which recruits can use to shoot at targets on the wall. Behind the bar, shelves are lined not with liquor bottles but with Molotov cocktails left over from the violent protests that ousted the government a year ago; the firebombs may be useful in the next stage of Ukraine’s upheavals.

Along with being a recruitment center, the former billiard club also serves as the headquarters of Korchynksy’s political organization, “Bratstvo” (in English, the Brotherhood). I find Korchynsky in a side room furnished with a large billiard table, worn-out leather sofa, armchairs and a piano. Lying on the piano are the notes of Chopin’s funeral march and the lyrics to the German national anthem, whose first verse, beginning “Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,” harkens back to the Nazi era. It is perhaps an unfortunate choice of song for a political figure that is often described as an extremist, ultranationalist and fascist.

Korchynsky does not pretend to be moderate, but he doesn’t appreciate the worst epithet used against his forces.

“We are not Nazis,” he tells me. “We are patriots and nationalists.”

Korchynsky is nearly a caricature of a Russian-hating Ukrainian nationalist. His silver hair contrasts with his dark, bushy mustache, which is turned down at the edges in the Cossack style. The St. Mary’s Battalion, which is one of more than a dozen private groups fighting alongside the Ukrainian Army against Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine, is Korchynsky’s creation. It is also one of the more unusual volunteer formations in the ragtag forces taking on the separatists, incorporating an ideology that manages to mix Christian messianism with Islamic jihadism.

Equalization and Dehumanization in Eastern Ukraine | Reconsidering Russia and the Former Soviet Union

Dehumanization is a central component of war propaganda. By removing the humanity of individuals and reclassifying them as anonymous “others,” it becomes easier for combatants in a war to kill them. Such is the case with eastern Ukraine, a conflict rife with dehumanization.

In the Ukraine conflict, the greatest victims of such dehumanization are the 5.2 million Russian-speaking civilians of the industrial eastern Ukrainian region of the Donbas. Lifelong residents, they are caught in the crossfire between the pro-Russian rebels and the pro-Kiev militias. Regardless of their political sentiments, the locals have been cast by officials in the Kiev government variously as “terrorists,” “Colorado beetles,” “Moskali,” and “subhumans.” Very little distinction is made among the civilians, the actual rebels, and the rebels’ supporters in Moscow. Civilians who remain in rebel-held territory are often considered “traitors” by the mere fact that they chose to remain in their homes.

This lack of clarity, combined with attacks against east Ukrainian civilians by far-right battalions (accused of war crimes by Amnesty International), has driven the majority of the population to support the rebels. If they were ambivalent toward the rebel cause before, the rhetoric and actions of the Kiev government and its supporters changed their stance. Further, since the start of the conflict, the dehumanization has extended to anyone in Ukraine deserting the army, dodging the draft, or explicitly voicing opposition to the war, like the journalist Ruslan Kotsaba. He was arrested by Ukrainian authorities for openly expressing his views in a YouTube video and now potentially faces 15 years in jail for treason. Amnesty International has declared him a prisoner of conscience.

The dehumanization of eastern Ukrainians has also spilled into the discourse of Western politicians, pundits, and analysts. One of the most vocal of these, the Ukrainian-American academic, Alexander Motyl, has called the people of the Donbas “the most retrograde part of [Ukraine’s] population” and has attempted on more than one occasion to draw parallels between them and white US southerners who supported Jim Crow. His discourse has only fueled the flames of the conflict, pitting Ukrainians against Ukrainians. It also drew strong criticism from Lev Golinkin, a writer originally from Kharkiv, in The Huffington Post.

Motyl was not alone. Other Western commentators have also dehumanized the people of eastern Ukraine. Further, this dehumanization has seeped into a general dehumanization of all things Russian. From the start of the crisis in Ukraine, the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement was presented to Western readers as a “civilization choice” for Ukrainians between a “civilized Europe” and a “barbaric, Asiatic Russia.” During the Euromaidan protests in December 2013, Sweden’s former Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, the co-architect of the EU’s Eastern Partnership (EaP) program, tweeted that the growing conflict between the protestors and police symbolized “Eurasia versus Europe in [the] streets of Kiev.” Even more extreme, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili declared Moscow to be the “new Tatar-Mongol yoke.”

Ukraine – Hey, Russia!! What Have You Done for Me Lately? | The Kremlin Stooge

I was reminded of that scene as I digested Mark Adomanis’s “While The West Was Debating About ‘Defensive Weapons,’ Ukraine’s Economy Collapsed“, in Forbes (thanks for the link, Moscow Exile). Of course the news that Ukraine’s economy is collapsing like a grand piano that has had its legs kicked out from under it is unremarkable to anyone who has been following the slow-motion nightmare of the Ukraine conflict and civil war. What is remarkable is seeing Mark Adomanis defend the viewpoint that Russia is acting the dog in the manger, denying Ukraine its chance to blossom and become a prosperous western democracy at Russia’s expense, and not doing enough to help poor Ukraine even as it is the target of daily vilification and vituperation from both Ukraine and its western backers. The latter apparently want Russia to open its markets to Ukrainian goods even as Ukraine’s lunatic Ichabod Crane Prime Minister drives on the building of a wall between the two countries. Expect Russia to front Ukraine gas on credit even though Ukraine has a terrible history of refusing to pay for what it has already consumed and – when its friends calm it down from its fist-shaking tantrum – announces it will be mature and reasonable (take the high road, as it were) by naming a much lower figure that it considers fair discharge of all debts. And for Russia to stand aside as Ukraine’s army rolls over its own eastern regions and crushes their rebellion.

That last part is particularly resonant, for me, because it’s not the first time we have seen Mark Adomanis go off the rails as if his breakfast cereal had been liberally dusted with cocaine. For instance, back in 2012 he went all foamy about free speech and Pussy Riot, confiding to his audience, “After all, it’s not hard to imagine why people would support the young, female rock musicians in their struggle against a brutal, corrupt, cynical, and increasing unpopular system.” Take note, folks – that’s one of the fairest and most balanced among the “Russia analyst” community from the United States speaking. The Russian system is brutal, corrupt and increasingly unpopular. Perhaps that’s how it looks from Washington; I shouldn’t be at all surprised.

Oddly enough, the current conflict in Ukraine results also from a freedom of speech issue, in which the eastern regions said “Stuff it, Kiev” after the U.S. State Department-backed-and-financed coup drove a democratically-elected leader, who had already agreed to all of the opposition parties’ demands, out of the country and brought to power a self-appointed junta supported by fascist flag-wavers sporting Nazi regalia. The Donbas said “No, thank you”, and refused to accept the authority of the unelected government. Apparently they did not have the right to do that, or at least Mark Adomanis did not respond with a fiery denunciation of the junta for rolling against them with a military operation. Not that I saw.

Then there was the Edward Snowden affair. Mr. Adomanis capered about, figuratively speaking, hurling vituperation at Mr. Snowden for essentially defending the right of people around the world to speak freely without their conversations being listened in on by the National Security Administration of the United States; they had tapped Angela Merkel’s telephone for years, and Germany was one of America’s staunchest allies. Then it developed that Mr. Adomanis also worked as a consultant to Booz-Allen Hamilton, the management company for whom Mr. Snowden had worked in the USA. Booz Allen enjoyed a very close relationship with the U.S. leadership and the intelligence services – current U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is a former Booz Allen executive. Former DNI Michael McConnell is Booz Allen’s current vice-president. Former CIA director and raving neo-con James Woolsey was also a former Booz Allen vice-president. Mr. Adomanis subsequently deleted his posts on that subject, but I think it should be clear that he has a sliding scale of grief over free-speech issues when he slobbers and moans about the cruel dictatorship that will not permit homeless unemployed delinquents to shout about shit and bitches and Putin in its houses of worship, but maintains that Edward Snowden is a traitor who should be shot because free speech is just a commodity to be harvested and exploited like any other.

"We are losing"--Maidan die-hard toys with the idea of military dictatorship - Fort Russ

By Yuriy Kasyanov

Translated from Russian by J.Hawk

Let’s speak openly. We are losing the war. The string of battlefield defeats, punctuated by the so-called “peace agreements” demonstrates the political powerlessness of the government and the total inadequacy of the military high command. Let’s count. The agreement to let Girkin [a.k.a. Strelkov] from Slavyansk, the destruction of our forces in the border sector D, Ilovaysk, the retreat from Lugansk airport, the loss of Novoazovsk, 32nd and 32st checkpoints, the defeat at Donetsk Airport, Debaltsevo…It’s a far from complete list of our failures. The list of victorious lies is even longer: we tend to call our defeats victories, and to blame the Kremlin for all the failures. If the retreat cannot be prevented then it has to be renamed, by calling it a “planned withdrawal” with subsequent military decorations and commemorative photos. The treacherous Putin can serve as an alibi personal cowardice and incompetence. Our losses are under-reported by a wide margin. We are short of equipment, artillery ammunition is nearly all gone; we can’t expect military aid from the glorious Western democracies. We can see the specter of total military catastrophe, the loss of even greater territories, an economic collapse, and the break-up of the state system of governance.

We are losing. We are losing because we are fighting an enemy which we do not want to defeat. The enemy is not the homegrown separatists, not Russian occupiers, and not even the entire “Russian world” of Putin. We are our own enemy number one: our cowardly short-sighted leaders and clumsy commanders; our new/old Rada, incapable of accepting the responsibility for the country; the mindless corruption which had become a part of our lives; our serf worldview which expects favors from a good master.

We do have enlightened minds, clean hands, and burning hearts. Nearly all of them are at the front. In general brains work better at war; life becomes more understandable and people show their true nature. Here you are valued by your deeds and not by your words; no rank, expensive equipment, or fashionable assault rifle are worth anything if the person is a craven coward. Here they fight well enough, to the extent that our GenStaff does not interfere; they consider each peace agreement the prelude to an even bigger war, and they know what needs to be done for that victory.

It’s different behind the front. Some are praying for the president, others curse him. While cursing, they find themselves a new icon on the blue screen, and pray to it. Behind the front, people put their hopes in the West, sanctions, and military aid. They consider all volunteers heroes, and the prominent battalion commanders Napoleons. Behind the front they don’t want to fight and don’t like bad news. In the battle between the truth about the war and the TV, the latter wins. When the reality of war penetrates mass consciousness, the citizens fall into cognitive dissonance with the propaganda inculcated earlier. It may end with a blind rebellion—an assault on the presidential administration, a siege of the GenStaff, the burning of the Rada, or the destruction of other foundations of the state which would only make our northern neighbor happy.

Alexander Donetsky - Ukraine: Emergency Measures to Build Totalitarian State - Strategic Culture Foundation

It took 16 hours of hard work to reach and sign the February 12 Minsk agreement on Ukraine. Five days later the 13-point accord was endorsed by the United Nations Security Council. On February 20, Ukrainian President Poroshenko signed a decree on the introduction of the National Security Council decision of 25 January «On emergency measures against the Russian threat and terrorist attack, supported by the Russian Federation».

The classified provisions of the document prevent from coming up with a detailed assessment of what the Kiev regime is going to do. No matter that, the part of the document which is open to public makes possible to trace the evolution of political regime in Ukraine.

Kiev has toughened the police control over the compliance with the order of registration of the place of living and the place of residence of Ukrainian citizens, foreigners and stateless persons in big cities, including the capital. The media censorship is going to be toughened. It was introduced on February 22 last year right after the coup to be called «a moratorium on criticism of government.» Practically all Russian TV channels are banned on Ukrainian soil. The Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council is to take additional measures to prevent «unsanctioned» infiltration of information coming from Russia. It is done in violation of Annex 1 (Article 5) of the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2022, (the «Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements») which says «Ensure pardon and amnesty by enacting the law prohibiting the prosecution and punishment of persons in connection with the events that took place in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.» The National Security and Defence Council offers the Prosecutor General of Ukraine «to take steps on the recognition of the so called «DPR» and «LPR» as terrorist organisations.» Instead of introducing laws to prevent persecutions, the President instructs to persecute opponents – the Ukraine’s partners at the Minsk talks – not in Ukraine only but also across the world.

The presidential decree calls for toughening the economic blockade of the territories under the anti-government self-defence forces’ control, in particular it orders the implementation of measures to stop deals on the electrical energy market with the plants that produce electrical energy in Novorossia. This provision is in strict violation of Article 8 of the Annex I, which envisions «Definition of modalities of full resumption of socioeconomic ties, including social transfers such as pension payments and other payments (incomes and revenues, timely payments of all utility bills, reinstating taxation within the legal framework of Ukraine).»

Fashionable fascism in Ukraine - New Cold War: Ukraine and Beyond

By the editors, New Cold War.org, Dec. 30, 2014

The weekly fashion magazine in France, Elle, has issued a sort-of retraction for a news/photo feature it published on the war in eastern Ukraine glamorizing the handful of young females joining far-right paramilitary battalions that fight alongside the Ukraine army against the people of eastern Ukraine. The five page feature article was published in the Nov. 14, 2014 issue of Elle.

The feature pictured six women in glamour-photo mode. ‘Vita’ is a member of the ‘Aidar’ battalion. Three sisters—’Vassilissa, Ludmila and Masina’–are said to be members of the far-right ‘Donbass Battalion’ (the first two sisters are pictured). ‘Sveta’ is a member of an unidentified battalion. ‘Nadejda’ is said to be a “graphic artist”; no other description is provided.

The sixth woman pictured is Vira Savtchenko, sister of the infamous Ukrainian helicopter pilot Nadejda Savtchenko (Nadiya Savchenko) who is presently imprisoned and facing criminal charges in Russia. (See the Elle feature article at this weblink, pp 151 to 156.)

Nadejda Savtchenko is accused of providing coordinates to Ukraine army or militia artillery batteries whose shells killed two Russian journalists, Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, near Luhansk in southeast Ukraine in June of 2014. She was detained by pro-autonomy rebels in eastern Ukraine on June 17.

Pro-Kiev Commander: 'We Will Burn Down Crimea, With All Its Residents' / Sputnik International

You can take the leader out of his battalion, but you can't take the battalion out of its leader: a Ukrainian MP has issued outrageous threats against Crimea and threatened to torch its population.

The militantly pro-Ukrainian Dnipro Battalion leader- turned-MP Yuri Bereza has promised to "burn down Crimea, with all of its residents if needed," vociferously refusing to “liberate the peninsula in a somewhat cultural manner.” The saber-rattling politician, did not specify who might need the people to be burnt and why

The threat was voiced in a live broadcast on the Ukrainian national TV channel 1+1.

Bereza has already distinguished himself following the scandal over the false photos illustrating an alleged Russian military presence in Ukraine on German TV.

A recent news segment which aired on Germany's federal ZDF channel showed the alleged movement of Russian tanks and missile systems into eastern Ukraine, illustrating the news with the image taken several years earlier, in 2009, and in South Ossetia, not Ukraine.

Azov's "phoney war" at Mariupol - Fort Russ

The Tuesday Ukrainian attack on the Mariupol sector which was accompanied by numerous and pompous accounts of its victories turned out to be mainly a showy senseness “march in review” before the eyes of its leader, whose role was assumed by Aleksandr Turchinov, the head of the National Security and Defense Committee, who specially arrived in Mariupol for this reason.

The attack began in the morning. It was spearheaded by the Azov Special Purpose Regiment. Its troopers drove through the villages located between Mariupol and Novoazovsk which are located in the so-called “no-man’s land”—a buffer zone between UAF and Novorossia forces—where they made several photos which confirm their “victory”. The trip cost them two wounded, due to the fact they were photographing themselves: Novorossia snipers noted the camera flashes.

Azov claims that they captured genuinely important villages of Sakhanka and Shirokino were not confirmed. “As of 15:20, the UAF attack on Sakhanka was repelled. Ukrainian forces which entered the outskirts were forced to retreat. There is fighting around the western edge of Sakhanka and Shirokino”—is how the militia reported the events.

Similar announcements were issued by DPR Ministry of Defense. However, both the CTO spokesman and the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov who went to Mariupol to observe the “offensive” said something exactly the opposite.

“Having shattered the Russo-terrorist grouping around Mariupol, our armed forces ensured a reliable defense for the city. Today the National Guard forces together with the Azov battalion and with UAF support broke enemy defenses near Mariupol. The offensive captured the cities of Pavlopol, Kominternovo, Lebedinskiy, Bedyanskoye, Shirokino. Enemy suffered very serious casualties. Having shattered the Russo-terrorist grouping around Mariupol, our armed forces have ensured a reliable defense for the city [yes, the sentence is repeated in the original-J.Hawk] by protecting it from artillery fire."

Azov Battalion Nazi dance. These are people that American and European taxpayers give money to [Video] - Red Pill Times

Half-naked men of the neo-nazi military branch, the Azov Battalion of Ukraine, are seen jumping around the room, looking less like serious fighters and more like drugged up skinheads at a punk-rock concert.

Half way through the video, several men start throwing a series of white power, Nazi salutes that were used as a greeting in Nazi Germany.

Merkel and Obama must be so proud.

American and European taxpayers…congratulations, you will be taking care of these guys for the next 20 years.

TASS: World - Radicals stage disorder at May Odessa massacre trial in southern Ukraine

ODESSA, January 22. /TASS/. Activists of Ukrainian far right nationalistic movement Right Sector and the so-called Maidan self-defense groups staged disorder Thursday at the building of a local court which is trying a criminal case over the May 2014 massacre which killed 48 in southern Ukrainian city of Odessa.

A group of radical activists broke into the court building and attacked close relatives and the next of kin of defendants, injured parties and their lawyers. They were crying out “Glory to Ukraine” and “Glory to Heroes” and were chanting insulting slogans against residents in war-torn east Ukrainian industrial Donbas. A brawl sparked up which police had to break up.

Due to the current tense situation the trial did not begin, because judges and other parties in the trial couldn't get into the courtroom. Meanwhile, a court session should be held, because the arrest of the defendants who have been kept in custody since May 2014 will expire in a few days.

Stab in the Back, Ukrainian-style - Fort Russ

Former Svoboda deputy Yuriy Sirotyuk accuses the government of "opening the second front" against...its own people.

By J.Hawk

Argument.ua published a lengthy screed from Sirotyuk's Facebook page, in which the Svoboda official is accusing the Ukrainian government of failing to wage war against Russia in a proper fashion. In Sirotyuk's estimate proper fashion would include a declaration of war against Russia, closing of borders, requiring visas for entry into Ukraine, ending of diplomatic relations with Russia, ending trade with Russia.

Sirotyuk also wants a thorough purge of the "counter-terror operation" leadership and the implementation of measures that would collectively increase Ukrainian army strength to 350,000 soldiers. Instead of pursuing these reforms, the Ukrainian government has instead opened a "second front" against Ukraine's own population, by which he means not the bombardment of civilians of the Donbass but...the measures prescribed by Western institutions, namely catastrophic cuts to social services. He goes so far as to accuse the Kiev government to be less afraid of Putin than its own frontline fighters (which is probably true, since it's not Putin who's blowing up courthouses in Kharkov...). Never mind that Sirotyuk's plan would not only fail to defeat the Donbass insurgency, but would damage Ukraine's relations with Western financial institutions and lead to an immediate default.

The Enemy Within: Right Sector blows up Kharkov courthouse - Fort Russ

An explosion near a courthouse in Kharkov following court proceedings against Right Sector militant.

http://rusvesna.su/news/1421694042

Translated from Russian by J.Hawk

The explosion occurred as people were leaving the circuit court in the city of Kharkov. 12 people were wounded. An investigative unit and seven first aid teams are working on the scene. All of the victims were participants in the court proceeding concerning Mikhail Sokolov, a Right Sector member, who was arrested in October 2014 for showing at a voting site in Kharkov while carrying an assault rifle. He was charged with unlawful possession of weapons.

Translator’s Note: Yet another demonstration, as if one was needed, that the real objective of the Right Sector is the eventual overthrow of the current Ukrainian government. Which is continuing to treat it with kid gloves. Unlawful possession of weapons? Seriously? That's like charging the KKK with fire code violations.

The far right in the new Ukrainian Parliament | Solidarity with the Antifascist Resistance in Ukraine

A number of far right parties and individuals were elected to the Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) in the recent elections on October 26 in the lists of different parties or standing in single-mandate constituencies. Some are now part of the government majority and many have been elected to different positions in the parliamentary commissions.

The main far right party in the previous Rada, Svoboda (Freedom) went down in votes and elected members: from 2.1 million votes for the party list and 37 Rada members down to 740,000 votes and only 6 members elected in single-mandate constituencies.

However, the whole political spectrum moved to the right, with the “mainstream” parties of president Poroshenko (Block Poroshenko) and the prime minister Yatseniuk (Peoples Front) all pandering to radical right wing reactionary nationalism and having far right individuals in their lists or supporting them in single-mandate constituencies. To give an example, president Poroshenko declared October 14 the day of the defender of Ukraine in commemoration of the founding of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) which during World War Two collaborated with the nazis and carried out atrocities against the Polish population. Poroshenko also declared that the UPA should be regarded as heroes and and example to be followed.

The main beneficiary of Svoboda’s decline was the right wing populist Lyashko’s Radical Party. Lyashko had spent most of the initial phase of the so-called “anti-terrorist operation” dressed in black paramilitary fatigues, participating directly in capturing, threatening and torturing “terrorists” in the East. He had also made an alliance with a section of the neo-nazi Social-Nationalist Assembly, with some of its members being elected to the Kyiv City Council on the Radical Party list.

Igor Mosiychuk, deputy chair of the parliamentary committee on law enforcement

Lyashko’s Radical Party list, which received 1.17 million votes and elected 22 members, can be considered as a whole as far right, and includes particularly nasty neo-nazi elements like Igor Mosiychuk. Mosiychuk has a long past in neo-nazi organisations, having been part of the UNA-UNSO in the 1990s. The Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense was a violent fascist organisation which predates most contemporary far right organisations in Ukraine today. After the collapse of the UNA-UNSO in 1998, he joined the Social National Party of Ukraine, an openly neo-nazi organisation which later on in 2004 changed its name, toned down a bit its public rhetoric and became Svoboda. Mosiychuk then joined those who disagreed with the “moderate” turn of the SNPU to form the Social Nationalist Assembly, a hard line neo-nazi group. In 2011 he became a member of the executive of the SNA and acted as its press secretary. Mosiychuk spent time in jail as one of the defendants in the case of the Vasilokovsky terrorists. He was only released from jail after the victory of the Euromaidan. During the Euromaidan movement, the SNA was part of the violent Right Sector. After the victory of the Euromaidan the SNA went on to form the infamous Azov Battalion of volunteers to fight against the uprising in the Donbas. They then became part of the Ministry of Interior Forces, but maintained their own command, composed exclusively of members of the SNA. Mosiychuk became a deputy commander in charge of press relations for the Azov Battalion. At the same time he became close to far right populist Oleg Lyashko. A number of SNA members stood in the Kyiv local election on Lyashko’s Radical Party list. Mosiychuk was elected as a Kyiv councillor. At the beginning of August he resigned from his position in the Azov Battalion so that the Battalion would not be too closely associated with Lyashko.

Video journalists declared "wanted criminals" by Ukraine's secret service; newspaper office in Kharkiv firebombed - New Cold War

Newspaper in Kharkiv is firebombed after being accused of airing “seperatist” views.

By New Cold War.org editors, Jan 11, 2015

UK video journalist Graham Phillips and his film partner, Patrick John Lancaster, have been declared “wanted criminals” by Ukraine’s secret service, the SBU. The news is reported on Facebook by John Lancaster (report below).

The declaration by the SBU is part of the widespread crackdown on freedom of the press taking place in Ukraine. There have been at least five journalists killed since the beginning of the ‘Anti-Terrorist Operation’ of the Kyiv government in eastern Ukraine last April. They were killed by shelling by Ukraine armed forces and militia. One was Italian, the other four were Russian.

Elsewhere in Ukraine, Russian language newspapers, radio and television stations have been closed because they were deemed to be ‘security’ threats. Journalists deemed to be reporting the views of “seperatists” in eastern Ukraine face threats and harsh legal sanctions.

Meanwhile, journalists began staging protests in Kyiv in late November after the government announced the formation of a ‘Ministry of Information’ that will henceforth tightly control the dissemination of information.

The latest attack on media took place on Jan. 11 at the office in Kharkiv of the Ukrainian-language newspaper Slavyanska. At 2:20 pm, a mob of some 20 people broke the windows of the newspaper with stones and then threw firebombs inside. (See photo or weblink.) There were two people working inside.

Right Sector refuses to obey Ukraine’s Defense Ministry - presidential aid — RT News

Paramilitary units of the ultranationalist Right Sector movement have refused to come under the command of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, President Petro Poroshenko’s aid told national TV. This might complicate the legal status of the group.

“I personally proposed a full legal clearance scheme to Right Sector,” presidential aid Yury Biryukov told the Ukrainian Channel 5 TV station.

A number of options have been on the table, Biryukov said, all of them implying contract service under the command of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

“They turned down this service,” Biryukov said, adding that armed forces are primarily “about discipline, order, subordination and central command.” However, when a paramilitary unit wants to become legal, yet remain autonomous and report to nobody, “that is a sort of science fiction.”

Back in November, Biryukov declared Right Sector’s Ukrainian Volunteer Corps was going to get legal status as an armed forces unit, yet no confirmation of the announcement followed.

The Right Sector group was formed in 2013 and came under the single command of the group’s leader, Dmitry Yarosh. The group, known for its radical actions and neo-Nazi ideology, vigorously took part in ousting Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovich in February 2014.

Russian news: Ukraine Volunteer Battalions Are Running Amok - Russia Insider

After the collapse of the Yanukovych regime in February and subsequent Russian aggression, Ukraine’s new government was saddled with an ill-prepared military and required the help of thousands of volunteers. These volunteer fighters were motivated by a patriotic desire to protect their homeland.

Many were veterans of the Maidan civic protests. The fighters were mainly supported by grass-roots financing from civic initiatives and small and mid-size businesses.

A minority of the fighters were ideologically motivated members of far-right movements.

These included the ultra-conservative Right Sector and the notorious Azov brigade, whose members had been shunned during the Maidan protests because of their white-supremacist, anti-democratic views.

Other volunteer brigades, such as the Dnepr-1, were recruited by business oligarchs, who financed them and commanded their loyalty.

During the spring and summer, many of these volunteer forces exhibited remarkable courage and helped stem the Russian-backed offensive. In the months that followed, most were integrated into the interior or defense ministries as special-status units.

But now several of these units, especially those linked to oligarchs or the far right, are revealing a dark side.

Horrific Torture Report Shows Why Much of the World Considers America to Be the Nazis of the 21st Century | The Daily Sheeple

Good guys do not sadistically torture people. Good guys do not threaten to sexually abuse the family members of their prisoners, and they certainly do not forcibly ram things up the rear ends of those in their custody. One of the greatest dangers that our country is facing is the fact that we are not passing on what it means to be “American” to future generations.

Once upon a time, Americans were the good guys. But now, instead of fighting the Nazis we are behaving just like them. The details of the Senate torture report that was just released are almost too horrifying to talk about. We must talk about them though because we are losing our soul as a nation. So please be warned – this article is going to be quite graphic. The reason for this is so that we can all take a long, hard, honest look at what we have become. After everything that has happened, top politicians from both political parties are still standing up and defending those that conducted and authorized this torture. The rest of the world is watching this and the number of people that are absolutely convinced that America is pure evil is growing by the day. By not loudly condemning this torture and bringing the perpetrators to justice, we add fuel to the fire of those that hate this country, and we make it more likely that Americans will be targets of violence all over the planet.

There are very few people that are more outspoken about the evil of Islamic terrorism than I am. But there is no way that we will ever defeat Islamic terrorists by becoming just like them.

When I was growing up, I was taught that Americans never torture their prisoners. That was something that the Russians, the Nazis, the Chinese and the North Koreans did. We were the “good guys”, and so I was taught that we always treated our prisoners humanely.

Oh, how things have changed.

The following is a summary of some of the details from the Senate torture report that just came out. As a nation, we should be deeply, deeply ashamed of what our government has been doing…

Out-of-town radical patriots threaten to burn down Sloviansk City Council | Ukraina.ru

A rally was held at the City Council in Sloviansk: Protesters demanded that teachers and school principals who have supported Donbas self-defense troops be fired

About 10 people, who called themselves representatives of the Sloviansk community, rallied with posters and flags at the Sloviansk City Council. The protestors demanded that the staff in the culture and education departments be reshuffled and that teachers who support Novorossiya be sacked. Furthermore, the radicals suggested that the teaching staff of School No. 15 be checked for "patriotism and patriotic teaching."

A day earlier, there had been an incident at the school: A student put on a blue-and-yellow ribbon bracelet, and a teacher asked him "to remove the shred from his hand."

In addition, the protestors proposed to "involve students in patriotic campaigns, including making presents for soldiers and weaving camouflage nets."

The protesters brought tires and bottles, presumably Molotov cocktails, to frighten residents. However, they did not use them but promised to "make some smoke" next time if their demands were not satisfied.

Police did not respond to the direct threat from the radical patriots.

Molotov cocktails in Orthodox churches of Kiev | Ukraina.ru

Late at night on December 2, unidentified persons attempted to start a fire in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Icon of the Joy of All Who Sorrow in the Babi Yar memorial complex

"A Molotov cocktail was thrown into the altar through the window grate. The fire scorched the wall, the window, the planking and polyethylene," Father Serhiy Temnik said.

He said the church guard saw the flames and put the fire out, saving the relics that were in the altar. Father Serhiy added that the church had been threatened increasingly often recently, but this was the first time that his church had been attacked.
He reported the incident to the police.

This was not the first attack at a church in Ukraine. In October, a group of 50 people accompanied by police seized the Orthodox Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Turka, a town in the Lviv Region. In August, Ukrainian radicals disrupted a service in the Church of the Intercession in the village of Chervona Motovylivka and demanded that Father Volodymyr Navozenko "leave Ukraine within a week" or they would kill him.
