Avakov gives a preview of road police reform

Talka says: The word on the street here is that the salary will be about 3500 hriven, equivalent to $220. A month. And as the value of the hriven continues to decrease, so will the equivalent dollar value decrease. I note here that the Kiev Post conveniently fails to mention anything about a salary, as if maybe just the honor of holding the position would be enough.

Ukraine's capital will get a new road patrol service sometime next spring, which will replace the post-Soviet road inspections, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced on his Facebook page on Dec. 24.

“We will have a new police patrol service. With new approaches, rules and new people. And hopefully, with your renewed trust,” the minister wrote.

He said that the Interior Ministry will start to recruit people to train to be new patrol officers for Kyiv on Jan. 20. He said selection will be competitive, and will be followed up with “three months of rigorous training and studies.” He said the final tests after the training program are expected to select 50 percent of applicants.

“So, in the spring we will get a new patrol police service in Kyiv. A service that – i think – will serve you, and you will respect,” he said.

The pilot project will then be extended to other cities and towns, he says.

Road police remains one of the most corrupt public services in Ukraine. Some 34 percent of drivers said they came across attempts to solicit bribes in four months starting in March this year, according to a recent poll conducted by Auro.ria, a specialized website for drivers.

Avakov said that the new road patrollers will be paid well to ensure that they are not tempted, and urged Ukrainians to consider applying.

“The road is open for all – the military and the police included - as well as students and specialists with diplomas,” he wrote. “So, accept new rules and change of priorities+ Smile! + Accept a new high salary, along with responsibility = you will be a new police patroller!”

Vadim Troyan, deputy commander of the neo-nazi Azov Regiment and active member of the neo-nazi paramilitary organisation Patriot of Ukraine (the paramilitary wing of the Social-Nationalist Assembly) has been appointed by Ukraine Minister of Interior Arsen Avakov as the head of the Kiev police. Avakov’s adviser, Anton Gerashchenko described the appointment as “truly revolutionary” in a post on his facebook profile and added that the “idea is to appoint to senior positions of the police volunteers who came to it by their heart and soul in action!” (read neo-nazis). He added that he would be working closely with Andrey Biletsky, Azov Regiment commander and now elected member of parliament, who is also a leading member of Patriot of Ukraine and the Social-Nationalist Assembly.

In a follow up development, Right Sector fascist Borislav Bereza, now elected as member of parliament, said he had contacted the Kiev police and that his organisation would be working closely with this force.

FERGUSON, MISSOURI / This is What Martial Law Looks Like

Spurred on by 9/11 and the War on Terror, America has become a feared military force of terror but the prime target has always been the American public which is becoming increasingly aware of their Government sponsored militarized police who see and relate to them as Middle East terrorists until proven innocent such as in Ferguson, Missouri. As I watch, with alarm, the rapidly growing American militarized Police State as well as George W Bush and Dick Cheney’s recent book tours ~ where they rationalize their illegal wars and economic rape of Iraq and Afghanistan as well as justify torture as a means to this criminal end ~ I am immediately reminded of Milton Mayer’s classic THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE (The Germans 1933 – 1945).

Mayer’s book describes the slow but sure seduction of the German people as their civil liberties, freedoms and moral values were gradually stripped away by Hitler’s fascist government while waving the flag of national security and patriotism.

But Then It Was Too Late ~ "What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could not understand it, it could not be released because of national security. And all the crises and reforms (real reforms, too) so occupied the people that they did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of government growing remoter and remoter.”

Apathy increases with each measured step, as it most certainly has in America, and Mayer knowingly describes the consequences for Germany in the early 1930’s~
