Dimwitted "Patriots" and Phony "Cowboys" | The Smirking Chimp

Call me old-fashioned, but when I see pictures of sniper yahoos in the Nevada desert aiming high-powered rifles at Bureau of Land Management officers in lawful performance of their duties, I think that's way beyond uncool. In fact, I think it's criminal, traitorous, ignorant, and dangerous in the extreme to the rule of law.

Forgive me if my thinking ain't cowboy enough, but idiots who saddle up to ride to the rescue of a rich rancher who has been in obvious violation of the law aren't cowboys I respect. These guys aren't John Wayne; they're more like John Wayne Gacy, anarchists and wanna-be murderers of their fellow citizens, losers, malcontents, and slack-jawed consumers of pre-digested right-wing thinking served up by people who use them for an agenda that has nothing to do with benefiting people like them.

They aren't patriots, and they're about as dumb as cow dung when it comes to understanding this nation's history or its Constitution. If they'd care to listen to someone smarter or more responsible than, say, Sean Hannity or the Klown Khorus that encourages them to think guys who are asked to pay agreed-upon grazing fees for use of public land are somehow being victimized by a "tyrannical government," they might consult American history for an earlier instance of the lawlessness they're advocating.

George Washington, the nation's first "tyrant," put down the Whiskey Rebellion, an uprising against government that took place when we were brand new. Those people didn't want to pay taxes, and they didn't want "revenuers" regulating the stuff they were distilling, sometimes in ways that could make consumers go blind. So, those early American peckerwoods stood up against government "tyranny," and Washington put down that rebellion, along with the notion that anyone with a rifle and an attitude can do whatever he pleases, government be damned.

The Nevada Standoff Has Nothing To Do With "Tyranny," "Sovereignty," "Freedom," or Cows.

All The World's A Stage, and Cliven Bundy is not the player.

The "standoff" in Nevada isn't about Cliven Bundy. It's not about "grazing fees." It isn't about "Freedom from Tyranny," the "First Amendment" or "Sovereignty." It isn't even about cows.

It's about money for two Billionaires with whom we're all familiar.

Two affiliates of the Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity are helping conservative media promote the cause of a Nevada rancher who has made violent threats against the federal government.

Two of its local affiliates, Americans for Prosperity Nevada and Americans for Prosperity Colorado, have become active boosters of Bundy's actions.

AFP Nevada's Facebook page posted a graphic attacking the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for spending "one million dollars" to enforce the court order to round up Bundy's cattle on federal land. Another photo attacked the Bureau for creating a designated "First Amendment Area" for protesters to gather in near the property.

On Twitter through AFP:

AFP Nevada has promoted the hashtag #BundyBattle, which supporters are using to showcase their message. In one tweet, AFP Nevada posted a graphic attacking the cattle round up and said they had a "bone to pick" with the Bureau of Land Management.

Another AFP Nevada tweet attacked the "First Amendment Area" with a photo of cow manure and the caption "This is what we think about 'First Amendment Areas'."

AFP Nevada also promoted as a "must read" a blog post from conservative pundit Dana Loesch where she described the standoff as "harassment" from the federal government. The group also accused the BLM of "strategically regulating hard-working Americans out of business."
