Kiev’s blockade of Novorossiya signals desperation | Ukraina.ru

Taking a page from Hitler’s siege of Leningrad, the Ukrainian authorities are attempting to impose a blockade – so far just economic – on unconquered Novorossiya

Kiev’s decision to stop budget funding and all social payments to the people of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics and suspend banking operations there came into force on December 1. In other words, the republic’s residents are being robbed of their savings, bank accounts and insurance deposits. Channels supplying medications and food are being destroyed, and public transit is paralyzed.

After their unsuccessful "blitzkrieg" and a string of military defeats, the Ukrainian authorities are continuing their genocide by attempting to starve millions in the country’s southeast.

A few days ago, some of my relatives visited me in Kiev – retirees from Donetsk, a husband and wife. They came to complete the necessary paperwork to receive their pensions. (They had to travel via Volnovakha because the famous Donbas train Ugolyok, renowned for its comfort and excellent service since Soviet times, no longer runs to Kiev.) They stood for hours in lines at the capital’s Pension Fund, where they met other Ukrainians who had come for the same reason: suffering humiliation (some gratitude for a lifetime of work) to collect their social payments and pensions, which are linked to new accounts at banks that the junta allows to operate near the combat zone (but outside the Donetsk and Luhansk republics).

Really, though, it’s just one bank. Have you guessed which one? That’s right, Privatbank. That is to say, in theory, accounts can be opened at Ukrsotsbank and some other banks so that they can withdraw their rightful pensions in areas controlled by the National Guard. However, this is only in theory. For some reason, for many new clients from Donbas, bank cards issued by other financial institutions are in short supply and their offices in the combat zone are few and far between. However, there are no problems opening accounts at Privatbank.
